Walter Elliot with the book. No wonder that bridge fell down. The Ettrick in spate can be quite formidable.

Sad news brought by The Passive Voice: the new Sherlock Holmes story recently unearthed in Selkirk by Walter Elliot is not by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle after all. The disclosure comes from I hear of Sherlock everywhere (and if they don’t know who should?).

The text of the story is available in The Telegraph‘s original announcement of the discovery, linked to at the “I hear of Sherlock” page. Internal evidence might be said to support the non-attribution to ACD.
