This infographic from Ink, Bits, & Pixels of 19 February 2014 is based on a poll by Fatbrain, a UK-based used-book marketplace. Over 1,000 Fatbrain users responded, and they revealed that the most popular reason for staying with paper reflected their emotional attachment, and not any practical use. Smell, at 11%, just makes the list. One might suggest that customers of a used book store might represent a slightly biassed sample, but we’ll take good news wherever we can find it.

It’s my impression that in the year since this was created we in publishing have all become a lot more relaxed about the e-book/p-book “race”. I certainly don’t think the race is over, but I do believe that the future will be a mixed paper/digital world.
